Rolex began in 1905 when Hans Wilsdorf founded Wilsdorf & Davis as a watch import trading company in the UK. In 1908, the brand "ROLEX" was registered as a trademark and watch manufacturing began. The early 20th century was a time of exploration and sporting challenges. In the world of watchmaking, Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, sought to push the boundaries of possibility and aimed to create a dust- and water-resistant wristwatch, one of the greatest innovations of his time, to replace the traditional pocket watch. He moved his base to Switzerland and developed three major watch mechanisms: the "Oyster case" which achieved high water resistance, the self-winding "Perpetual" mechanism, and the "Datejust" mechanism which instantly changes the date at midnight. Even today, the company is loved around the world as a luxury watch manufacturer with practical high functionality, robustness, and the highest status.
